Introduction

notmycar is an interesting name for a game. For starters, it's intentionally spelled in lower caps and as a singular word. It's just one way of standing out in a very saturated battle royale market. Released in early April 2019, the game is all about collecting new vehicles and putting weapons of destruction on them. Why? Because you'll be dropped onto an island with other players who like you, will be fighting to the death to be the last car and crew standing. It's not a groundbreaking concept, as games like Crossout and to an extent, Rocket League, have already pioneered which is PvP involving vehicles. Nevertheless, notmycar is doings its damnedest to stand out.

Gameplay That Tries To Stand Out

Credit should be given to notmycar for actually trying to break the wheel - so to speak - when it comes to battle royale games. It does take on familiar mechanics we've seen a thousand times already, like dropping onto an island solo or with your group to begin matches. Once down on the ground, you'll drive around looking for powerful gear and this is where notmycar does its best to stand out. Unlike traditional weapons, you'll be looking for things that actually gives your vehicles the edge. So instead of a chest harness, you'll be looking for a chassis upgrade for example, and that's what you'll need to learn quickly. Every car accessory part does something to give you a boost, so it's best to memorize these and fast. Additionally, every weapon and power up you come across have item rarities defined by their color. White for common, blue for rare and so on. This helps visualize the importance of what you need, making it friendly to new players.

How Progression Works

Like most battle royale games, progression is required on two fronts. The first is your profile XP, which increases over time the more matches you play and the better you perform. The second has to do with Seasons in notmycar, and a season pass will have its own progression where completion of certain objectives will grant you a sizable amount of XP plus cool rewards too. This can be a new gun or even a new car, or a paint job for customization. Secondary progression systems are all about stocking up on Coins, which is the main form of currency in game. You can get coins from daily and weekly objectives that features tasks like "Play 5 matches", which are easy enough to accomplish. Coins can then be spent in the Store for cosmetic items and other useful stuff. Overall it's not too complicated to get started, but purchasing a season pass is the fastest way to unlock better looking and better functioning vehicles in the long run. Worry not however, as free players will not get left behind considering you can still earn Coin without spending any money on the game.

What's In The Cash Shop

As for the cash shop itself, the notmycar store is still in its infancy stage, so there isn't all that much in there. If you have the coin, you can purchase exclusive vehicle skins to pimp out your rides and make you stand out on the battlefield. There's also body kits, flags and more to give players plenty of customization options. These can be grabbed either individually or in bundles. For players that want to quickly grab these items without having to grind the season pass or daily challenges, you can of course purchase Coin directly. Graphics and Visuals

What's really impressive about the game so far is how it looks and plays. The graphics in-game, especially the design of the cars, the terrain and the environments are top notch. On the highest graphic settings, driving around the battle royale map is a joy and watching battles play out is quite a treat and it's more realistic than say what you might see in Fornite. The game is also surprisingly polished in some departments, like its physics system that feels solid. Unfortunately, that's for high end machines. If you computer isn't decked out with the latest graphics card from the last generation or so, optimization will suffer so it's suggested that you play this on a modern gaming rig for best results.

Worth Playing?

notmycar is definitely an interesting game to begin with. Not only does it want to challenge the established battle royale games like Fortnite, PUBG and Apex Legends, it also wants to take on competitors in its sub-genre like Crossout. Will it succeed? The game definitely is on the right track as its gameplay is fun and progression systems fair for all. It also looks good which always helps, but that's not the key reasons why player stick around. To stop the bleeding of players and increase population in-game, notmycar needs to pump out more cars, more maps and more modes if it wants to be successful in the future. But for the present, it's definitely an enjoyable treat for players who just want to pimp out some cars and blow things up.
